Enc.lomiphene is a non-ste.roidal est.rogen receptor antagonist that promotes gona.dotropin-
dependent tes.tos.terone secretion by the testes. Enc.lomiphene is the trans-isomer of clomiphene,
which is about a 60-40 mix of trans (Enc.lomiphene) and cis (Zuclomiphene). While enc.lomiphene
(trans-clomiphene) is an est.rogen an.tagonist, zuclomiphene (cis-clomiphene) is a mixed agonist,
responsible for the est.rogenic activity and therefore the common side effects sometimes seen in
males. The enc.lomiphene isomer is responsible for the anti-est.rogen activity and the restoration
of ones hy.pothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis. In recent clinical trials, enc.lomiphene increased
se.rum L.H and F.S.H with concomitant increases in tes.tos.terone in men with secondary
hy.pogonadism. Enc.lomiphene showed overall better results than tes.tos.terone gels, which raise
se.rum tes.tos.terone but can lower L.H and F.S.H at the same time.
